Architectural Elements on Greek Vases Before 400 B.C. (Dissertation)
Philip Oliver-Smith
This dissertation is a catalogue of certain elements of architectural representations on Greek vases before 400 B.C., and an attempt to analyse these elements to discover the possible relationships between real and painted architecture. Only capitals, with columns, piers, and related elements, have been catalogued and commented upon. Basically, the question the dissertation poses is: what can be learned about these components of Greek buildings from the only drawings of Greek architecture which have survived?
